Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Published At: July 2, 2025

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard developed by Anthropic for connecting AI applications with external data sources and tools. MCP enables language models to securely access and interact with various systems including databases, APIs, file systems, and other services through a standardized interface. The protocol works by establishing connections between AI models and "MCP servers" that expose specific capabilities or data sources, where the AI application connects to and requests data from MCP-compatible servers. This allows developers to give AI applications access to real-time information and specialized tools without requiring model retraining.
