A scene, in video, is a group of consecutive shots that belong together, usually because they share a location, action, or topic. Where a shot boundary is a measurable visual event, a scene boundary is semantic: it depends on what the video is about, not just on how the pixels changed. That makes scenes the useful unit for anything that navigates a video by meaning, including search, chapter markers, clip discovery, and in-video navigation.

Frames, shots, and scenes form a rough hierarchy of granularity: frames are the individual still images, shots group frames captured continuously, and scenes group shots that share context.
