TL;DR: Reelay, an AI meeting note-taker, built its product on Mux's video infrastructure. Mux surprised Reelay by cutting prices up to 23%, on top of savings from Automatic Cold Storage. Their founder says it’s the first time he’s seen a vendor proactively lower prices. With zero downtime, collaborative problem-solving, and proactive cost cutting, Mux has earned Reelay’s loyalty: "I wouldn't even look at any other company,” their CEO says.
Deric Frost, Reelay’s Founder and CEO, was surprised by the subject line in his inbox: “Mux Video prices reduced up to 23%.”
He’d received plenty of pricing emails from vendors over the years — usually announcing increases. So when Mux emailed to say they were cutting costs, he had to read it twice.
"Mux just cut their costs. I don't know that I've ever experienced that in my entire career as an entrepreneur," said Deric.
Reelay is an AI meeting note-taker that transforms recorded business meetings into actionable insights. The platform ingests meeting recordings and uses AI to generate transcripts, summaries, meeting notes, and action items — turning hours of video content into digestible information.
“If it wasn't for Mux, we wouldn't even have a product,” Deric said.
Video at the core
Unlike many startups that add video features later, Reelay was designed around video from day one. Every feature depends on processing video and audio to generate transcripts, summaries, notes, and action items.
Reelay's AI workflows need Mux to function. Reelay takes meeting recordings, stores them with Mux, then pulls transcripts directly from those video files. Those transcripts are what feed into all of Reelay's AI features.
"In the deep research that we did, knowing that we were going to need a strong video backbone in our architecture, Mux made its way to the top,” Deric said about choosing to build on Mux from the beginning.
Instant Cold Storage, instant win
This heavy reliance on video came with a scaling challenge. As Reelay grew, they hit a problem every video-first company knows: more users and usage meant higher costs.
Each meeting they processed created video files that needed to be stored somewhere, and those storage bills kept climbing.
The issue became urgent during the first half of 2025, as Reelay faced rising tech stack costs from other vendors and increased competition in the market.
“Honestly, it's been a little bit painful to go through that cycle. We’ve already sold to our customers, and now all of a sudden our costs are going up,” Deric shared.
Mux's Instant Cold Storage lets Reelay act on this information. Videos, upon upload and until they’re viewed for the first time, are automatically moved to cold storage, which is 60% cheaper than “hot” storage for videos accessed frequently. This allows Reelay to deliver all the text assets without worrying about the cost of storing their video. And in the off chance that someone does want to view their video, it’s instantly moved to hot storage and is still accessible without any waiting or "thawing.”
By understanding what their users wanted, Reelay turned a cost problem into a competitive advantage so they could offer the same reliable experience for less while controlling video storage costs.
Video you can trust
"Mux has never failed us," Deric noted.
"We've had other tools that have failed us along the way, in small and in big ways. Mux has never gone down on us. We've never run into support issues where the culprit is Mux."
While Reelay continuously assesses other parts of their tech stack for potential replacement or in-house development, "Mux has never been one that's come up on the list.”

A lasting partnership
For most vendors, it’s simple: more usage = bigger bills and nothing to discuss.
When Reelay experienced rapid growth that led to unexpected usage spikes and higher costs, Mux worked collaboratively with them to find solutions rather than treating it as purely transactional.
“There are other companies where you have no idea who you’re working with, and if a problem comes up, you might not have any options,” Deric explained. “Mux was extremely understanding of the issue. And was very generous to help work through it with us.”
The experience left a lasting impression on Deric.
"If I'm able to be loyal to Mux, I will always be loyal to Mux," he says. "Mux has evolved from a fantastic vendor relationship all the way into a great partnership for us."
The bottom line
Given Mux’s track record of reliability, affordability, and human support in its problem-solving, Deric's recommendation to other founders is clear:
"If you have a need for video processing and video storage on the back end of whatever you're building, then I couldn't recommend anyone higher than Mux. I wouldn't even look at any other company."
